Heavy rainfall inundated several parts of Rudrapur on Tuesday, flooding markets and exposing the city’s drainage shortcomings. Water entered numerous shops, causing losses to traders, while waterlogging disrupted traffic and affected normal business activities across the city.
Following the downpour, knee-deep water accumulated in key commercial areas, including the Main Market, Gandhi Park Road and Agrasen Chowk. Several shops remained closed as rainwater entered commercial establishments, while commuters struggled to navigate submerged roads.
Local residents said the city faces similar conditions during every monsoon, alleging that the drainage system has consistently failed to prevent waterlogging. They claimed that despite repeated assurances, adequate measures for rainwater disposal have not been implemented.
The waterlogged roads created difficulties for both pedestrians and motorists, with several vehicles getting stranded in flooded stretches. Schoolchildren also faced inconvenience while returning home, as traffic movement remained affected for several hours.
Traders have urged the administration to take immediate steps to improve the drainage infrastructure and prevent recurring flooding in commercial areas. They said the prolonged waterlogging not only damaged property but also kept customers away from the market, resulting in a significant impact on business.
