Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has directed Chief Education Officers (CEOs) in all districts to regularly monitor the affiliation process of nearly 400 madrasas operating classes from 1 to 8 across the state. The Directorate of Elementary Education has asked all 13 district CEOs to submit periodic progress reports related to madrasa affiliation to the department. The move is part of the state government’s plan to bring uniformity in the education system and connect all institutions with mainstream education.
Under the Uttarakhand Minority Education Act implemented in October last year, all madrasas in the state will come under the newly formed Minority Education Authority from July 1, 2026. With this, the Uttarakhand Madrasa Board will cease to exist.
According to the education department, madrasas running classes up to Class 8 will have to obtain affiliation at the district level, while institutions operating Classes 9 to 12 must secure affiliation from the Uttarakhand Education Board before June 30.
In-charge Director of Elementary Education Dr Mukul Kumar Sati said madrasas from Classes 1 to 8 will have to apply online through the department’s portal. He added that madrasa managements facing any issue during the application process can contact the respective district Chief Education Officer.
Officials said regular reviews will be conducted in all districts to ensure the affiliation process is completed within the stipulated time.
Under the new system, madrasas will be linked with the Uttarakhand Education Board, a common curriculum and modern education methods. Along with traditional education, subjects such as science, mathematics and computer education will receive special focus.
The state government has also constituted the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority. Professor Surjeet Singh Gandhi has been appointed chairman of the authority along with several nominated members and departmental officials.
