Uttarkashi: Four pilgrims from Delhi, including a five-year-old child, were injured after their car lost control and fell into a drain near Dharali on the Gangotri Highway while they were travelling to Gangotri Dham for darshan on Monday morning.
According to officials, the accident occurred at around 9:15 am near Dharali. The vehicle reportedly became uncontrollable and plunged into a roadside drain, leaving all four occupants injured.
The injured have been identified as Anurag Saxena (33), son of Pradeep Saxena; Barkha Saxena (33), wife of Anurag Saxena; Avyukt (5), son of Anurag Saxena; and Pratima Saxena (56), wife of Pradeep Saxena. All are residents of Dwarka in West Delhi.
After receiving information about the accident, police teams reached the spot and shifted the injured to the Primary Health Centre in Harsil for treatment. Officials said all four sustained minor injuries and are undergoing medical care.
The accident took place near a vulnerable stretch of the highway at Dharali, where more than 300 metres of the road was buried under debris during last year’s disaster. An alternative temporary road has been constructed over the debris, and Chardham Yatra traffic is currently being operated through the same route.
This is the second road accident reported on the Gangotri Highway in recent days. On May 29, a separate car accident had occurred near Helgugad on the same route.
Authorities have advised pilgrims travelling to the Himalayan shrines to exercise caution while driving on mountain roads, especially on stretches affected by previous disaster-related damage.
