The Uttarakhand government is set to commence a training program on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the first week of January. The program aims to educate personnel from district magistrate offices, tehsils, blocks, and village service centers about UCC’s legal provisions. Training will include the use of UCC-related websites and apps for tasks such as marriage, divorce, and live-in relationship registrations, as well as will drafting and other related services.
According to Home Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, the training will involve officials and staff from DM offices, SDM offices, village development offices, municipal corporations, and tax departments. The initiative will include the preparation of master trainers, ensuring a continuous and systematic training process.
Focus on User-Friendly UCC Implementation
The government emphasizes making UCC user-friendly and equipping municipal and panchayat officials with necessary skills. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the implementation of UCC in January, underscoring its importance in streamlining legal processes.
To oversee the implementation, a four-member committee led by former IAS officer Shatrughna Singh has been formed. The committee includes Doon University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Surekha Dangwal, social worker Manu Gaur, ADGP Amit Sinha, and Resident Commissioner Ajay Mishra. It provides training, consultation, and technical assistance to ensure effective execution.
