Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched and laid foundation stones for development projects worth ₹5,400 crore in Durgapur, West Bengal, where he sharply criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government. Addressing a public rally, PM Modi alleged that due to TMC’s “goonda tax” (extortion), investors are avoiding the state, stalling its growth and depriving youth of employment.
He emphasized that the climate of fear and corruption created by the TMC regime has turned investors away, seriously impacting Bengal’s economic progress. PM Modi said Durgapur, known as the “Steel City”, is also a hub of India’s labour force, and the new projects will boost connectivity and support gas-based transport systems.
Highlighting the vision of a developed India by 2047, PM Modi shared three key principles: empowerment through development, self-reliance through employment, and good governance through sensitivity. He said all current government initiatives aim to reach every corner of the country, including West Bengal, which the BJP envisions as a prosperous and progressive state.
The PM also mentioned modernisation of industrial units in Durgapur and Raghunathpur with ₹1,500 crore investment. These upgrades, he stated, will enhance productivity and create local job opportunities.
In his closing remarks, PM Modi pointed out that once a land of job seekers, Bengal has now become a state of job migration. Youth are forced to leave for work due to a lack of local opportunities. He assured that a BJP-led government in Bengal would restore growth and create employment for the youth.
