Kedarnath: Second Phase of Helicopter Services to Begin Monday under Strict Safety Rules

The much-awaited second phase of helicopter services to Kedarnath Dham will commence from Monday, though services may start later in the morning due to pending formalities. Considering the accidents reported during the first phase of operations, the government has put in place stricter safety protocols this time.

Six helicopter operators have already reached various helipads in Kedarnath valley, and bookings remain full until 22 September. A DGCA inspection team is stationed in the valley to complete necessary checks before flights begin. Due to unfavorable weather on Sunday, the inspection could not take place.

To enhance safety, the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority has set up two operational control rooms. These will ensure real-time communication with pilots, accurate weather updates, and constant monitoring of helicopter movements. Pilots will receive precise weather information before every flight to reduce risks.

According to Nodal Officer Rahul Chaubey, operations will begin from Monday. However, Aryan (Guptkashi) and Crystal (Sersi) companies have not been granted permission to operate. Helicopter services will be run by Trans Bharat from Guptkashi, Pawan Hans, Thumbi, and Global Vectra from Phata, and Himalayan Heli and Aero Sersi from Sersi.
